New sports app, 42 Sports, powered by TheAppLabb, launches for Super Bowl with thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes to give away

First set of users will compete to win prizes in the app’s Super Bowl Social Competition

TORONTO, ON (January 27, 2015) – 42 Sports, the mobile app that allows sports fans to interact directly with athletes, sports experts and other fans on a game-by-game basis in a highly engaging manner, has soft launched for the Super Bowl and will be giving away thousands in prizes.

The app is the first product launched by Social Capital Ventures Inc., a company dedicated to creating more engaging online platforms by utilizing people’s social power.

“42 Sports provides on-the-go and second screen convenience. 53% of devoted sports fans use a tablet or smartphone to access online sports content while watching sports on TV and 25% of casual sports fans do the same, with those numbers growing every year,” 42 Sports’ Chief Product Officer, Tania Hew, stated. “We cater to that market and have added many features designed to keep them engaged before, during and after games.”

The app provides real-time interaction with sports experts through post threads and a video feed. There is also built-in gamification through polls, quizzes, a points system, leaderboards, digital rewards and real-world rewards per game. This gamification will be brought into play for its Super Bowl Social Competition. To promote its soft launch, 42 Sports will be giving away thousands of dollars in prizes to the top three users with the most points in-app for the Super Bowl game. Other prizes will also be awarded. To enter, users simply have to download the free app, sign up and start using it. The experts for the Super Bowl game include a current CFL player, a CFL coach and a known sports radio & television personality.

“The name 42 Sports was inspired by the jersey number of the late great Jackie Robinson, one of my idols. In the same way that Jackie Robinson broke new ground, so do we aim to break new ground with our app,” said CEO & Founder, Marc Schwalb.

The app is available on iOS and Android. The Super Bowl Social Competition runs from January 19 to February 8.
